Protect
Yourself From Malicious E-mails
Be
wary of suspicious-looking e-mails and fake websites. These
e-mails are not from HitTrax and responding to them may put
your computer and files at risk. Protect yourself by paying
close attention to the e-mails you receive and the websites
you visit. If you receive an unsolicited or suspect
e-mail, remember the following tips to stay safe:
- Safe
Log In: To log in to your HitTrax account or access
the HitTrax website, open a new web browser (e.g. Internet
Explorer, Netscape, Safari, etc..) and type in the following:
http://www.hittrax.com.au or
use the address stored in your favorites folder.
- Greeting:
E-mails from HitTrax will address you by your first
and last name or the business name associated with your
HitTrax account. Fraudulent e-mails often include the salutation
"Dear HitTrax User" or "Dear HitTrax Member".
- E-mail
Content: May include phrases relating to password
changes.
- E-mail
Attachments: Unless you have contacted HitTrax
directly, HitTrax e-mails will never ask you to download
an attachment or a software program. Attachments contained
in fraudulent e-mails often contain viruses that may harm
your computer or compromise your HitTrax account.
- Request
for Personal Information: If we require information
from you, we will notify you in an e-mail and request that
you enter the information only after you have safely and
securely logged in to your HitTrax account.
- Do
Not Respond: Often, fraudulent e-mails will request
details such as your full name, account password, credit
card number, bank account, PIN number, Social Security Number,
or mother's maiden name. Never open or respond to an unsolicited
e-mail requesting these details. Delete the e-mail
immediately. Do not be tempted or curious - this is exactly
what these e-mails are designed to do. Malicious code can
be hidden and triggered when you open or respond to the
e-mail.
Never click 'unsubscribe' or 'click here to be removed'
from an unsolicited email. The chances of you being unsubscribed
are probably zero and you will only be confirming to the
sender that they have reached a 'live' email. By responding,
you could open the door to thousands of other spammers.
The safest option is to delete the email.

Best Defense:
1: Always use a good anti-virus program and keep it updated
2: Trust your senses. If you feel suspicious, delete the
e-mail
3: Never open or respond to an unsolicited e-mail that has
files attached
4: Attachments ending with .pif, .scr and
.exe almost always contain a virus
If
you think that you have received a fraudulent e-mail or fake
website, delete the email immediately. Do not open the e-mail.
Do not click any link or attachment in a suspicious e-mail.
